I’m a bit of an avid YouTube watcher.. #guilty. In my spare time I love getting on my laptop, coffee in hand and browsing through some of my favourite YouTube channels. I watch a variety of things on there.. whether its related to beauty, makeup, dancing or even Veganism. But today I wanted to talk about some of my fave Beauty bloggers! The greatest thing about YouTube is that it satisfies our inquisitive sides giving us a look into tips, trick and trends from people who dedicate their lives to these subjects and their channels. I just love how it’s so easy to just go on there, search for almost anything and at the click of your fingers you have a mass of videos related to that topic. Don’t get me wrong though, I do still love me my blogs and magazines, those badgirls are always great to come back to after I’m sick of listening to someone ramble and clicking my way through the time bar to get the point! So I like to mix it up between actual reading and viewing 🙂 Sometimes, watching how different people apply makeup and change their face can be so relaxing.. but also, inspiring!

First up I want to mention my all time favourite – Lisa Eldridge. You may have heard me mention Lisa before but if you haven’t she is a famous professional makeup artist to the stars that has a channel to show us how she works her magic! She plays with faces like Kate Winslet, Keira Knightley, Kate Moss and Rosie Huntington-Whitely to name a few, so woman knows what she’s doing! She has an obsession with makeup, not just of today but stemming back to how makeup came about and all the trends through the decades. I love not only her stunning English accent but the way she creates such bright and fresh makeup looks. She has quite a minimalistic approach to makeup but the finished products look so damn flawless I just don’t know how she does it! I always find her channel helpful because not only does she talk about what works for her but she does tutorials related to other skin types and tones too. These days it’s all about the Kardashian/Jenner inspired look which is difficult for me being a pale redhead.. I aint ever going to be able to rock that! So this is another reason why I love Lisa because she seems to be very much about old school glam and making each and every person discover what their own “look” is and then playing on that. Because she has spent a bit of time working around the world she also knows a lot about different makeup cultures which I also find so interesting! I love the way the Japanese do makeup and have a bit of an obsession with asian products and it seems that is something that Lisa enjoys too. She used to work for an asian brand so she knows quite a bit about how they like to do makeup and what they find beautiful and I might be crazy but I really find this sort of thing super interesting 🙂

Someone a little younger on the Tube is me old mate Carli Bybel. Just joking, I don’t know her from a bar of soap but she talks to me on there as if we are mates so sometimes it’s confusing. Also when I say younger, I don’t mean young as she is actually the same age as me.. (26 for all of you playing out there). I often find myself watching her videos just to ogle at her beauty! This gal has some god given looks, let me tell you. But also, she is really great to watch because she knows how to get that glam look going. Whats even better is that she is Vegan so she often suggests vegan and cruelty free products that she has tried and loved/hated. Quick side note – I am trying to use some more vegan products on my face and have been loving the brands Cover FX and Tarte cosmetics. Both brands are vegan and cruelty free and can be shopped in Sephora stores near you! Carli is one of the people I was referring to that easily start to ramble but that is mainly in her VLOG’s so if you are into that then that’s cool but some of the makeup looks she creates really are beautiful. Not only does she talk about makeup but she also mentions new products and things that she has been loving. All that girly stuff we love!

A channel that I’ve recently come by that doesn’t have an abundance of videos but what is on there is absolute GOLD is Miss Fame. Some of you may have heard of Miss Fame before? She is a drag queen that became popular on the tv show RuPaul’s Drag Race and let me tell you this queen is farking fierce. She actually just got signed to IMG models in America, being the first ever drag queen to be signed at a high-end agency sooo yeah she = HOT. She does makeup that makes me want to be a drag queen, I’m not joking! A new dream of mine is to one day have Miss Fame do my makeup because this shit is off the chain. Dance competition makeup can sometimes rival drag makeup so I love watching a few queens on YouTube (Jeffree Star is also amazing) to learn some of the tricks of the trade. So if you are a dancer or you just love that heavy-duty OTT makeup style complete from glueing your eyebrows down to rocking a wig then this channel is for you! It is literally the best makeup I’ve ever seen, the other day I showed Steve one of the transformations and let me just say, profanities were shouted haha! Miss Fame makes me want to do makeup better and more often and I just love how much they know about how to change the face and make things appear differently. It’s all about that contour baby! Definitely worth a look at!!

Ok, one more worth a mention is Desi Perkins. This girl is tooooo cool. I actually came about her via one of my besties Rach Macintosh (also has a YouTube channel Rachel Macintosh! Go check her out and SUBSCRIBE!!) as Rachel did a makeup look on her channel inspired by Desi which was just so beautiful. So naturally I was like who is this Desi girl and let me see this gorgeous orange-y makeup first hand! Yeah, she didn’t disappoint. She always creates such a flawless base, her eyebrows are 2 small perfect dreamboats and the way she blends colours is just melt-worthy. The way she creates her videos are so amazing too.. the quality of the picture and something about the way she cuts the videos are just super professional. I think her vids may actually be the best on YouTube.. big call right there! She is latina so obviously her and I don’t have many similarities but she has experience on dealing with under eye creasing (the bane of my existence) and I she and I share a love for all things coral-ly. She is always up-to-date with new products and whats hot so if you want to keep in the loop, Desi is your gal. Everything she does is so immaculate and beautiful, ranging from the colours she chooses to the finish she gets. I think the picture says it all really!!

So I think that’s all I’ll mention today guys otherwise I might be here all bloody day. Who knew I had such an obsession!? Surprised myself even!! What are some of your favourite YouTube channels? Comment below 🙂 and please don’t forget to SUBSCRIBE to this old blogging blog if you want updates on my babble first hand.

A little while back, I shared my morning skincare routine with you gals (and guys?) so this is the other half to my day, the night-time routine! I am a little less vigilant with my night routine as some days I come home absolutely knackered and can’t peel myself away from the T.V.. Gotta see who wins Survivor guys! Ha Ha and yes I know I’m a bit late with Survivor but surprisingly I hadn’t seen any publicity on it and Steve and I have been catching up on TenPlay since we got back from our travels. But, in saying all this I would NEVER skip my night routine as I know how important it is for my skin to heal and regenerate while my body is in sleep mode. Unlike my teenage years, I will now never ever go to bed with makeup on, no matter how tired I am. So let’s get into it!

bioderma-sensibio
Bioderma Sensibio

Most days I come home with makeup on my face. It doesn’t matter if it’s a lot or not but what is important is that I get the stuff off! I use the Bioderma Sensibio H2o to remove my makeup and let me say this cleanser is the bomb.com!! It is a cleansing water that removes the toughest of makeup (waterproof mascara.. bye bye!) but still cares for sensitive skin. I’ve tried a few Micellar Water products and I think this one has to be the best. The Garner Micellar Water isn’t bad but I feel it really struggles with waterproof mascara and some heavy tinted lipsticks. It may be half the price but it’s also half the strength.. sorry Garnier! I just find the Bioderma so much quicker to use as it swipes everything off in one go and leaves me feeling fresh. I buy mine from Priceline here in Australia and I buy the big ass bottle to keep me covered for a while. Also worth noting is that this product doesn’t sting if it gets in your eyes.. WINNER!! Because generally, if I’m removing makeup from my eyes, I end up getting it in my eyes and some products can buuuurn.

Once I’ve done the first cleanse (makeup removal) I then go in with my Dr Hauschka Soothing cleansing milk. The cleansing milk is perfect for a night cleanse as it gently removes dirt and is made for sensitive skin. Because I’ve already done one cleanse I don’t need something too strong or abrasive and especially considering it’s just before bed my skin only needs a gentle cleanse. I simply wet my face with warm water, gently apply 2-3 pumps to my hands, warm between my fingers and apply a thin layer all over my face and neck. I then use small circular motions working from the inside areas of my face outwards (no scrubbing!), including the eye area and then remove with a warm muslin cloth. This leaves me feeling squeaky clean and refreshed, ready to apply a couple of sprays of my Dr Hauschka Facial Toner to close my pores and tone my skin.

If I happen to be suffering from a bit of a breakout (damn hormones) I tend to leave it at that so that my skin can breathe overnight and maybe I’ll apply a bit of acne cream on trouble spots to dry up those problem areas. Otherwise when my skin is pretty normal I apply some Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Active Complex II in a light layer all over my face. As I have mentioned before, this product is a bloody gem. I feel it has really added brightness to my skin and given it back some much needed elasticity. Nothing like flying on an airplane, 200 coats of fake tan and heavy makeup to sap the skin of all its moisture! I love applying this whilst on the plane too, to keep my skin from drying out. It’s so hydrating and rich and smells like honey, I think I’m in love 🙂

And that’s all folks! As I have said previously HERE, maybe twice a week I will switch up this routine for a proper deep cleanse using my Eve Lom Cleanser. Hope you enjoyed and don’t forget to SUBSCRIBE belowww!

I LOVE PERFUME. It’s actually one of my guilty pleasures in life; buying perfume. I guess I found my ‘nose’ for it way back when I was a young teen still living at home. My dad worked away overseas and would spend a month away and a month at home and would often bring me back presents of pretty glass bottles filled with amazing scents. My dad luckily has pretty good taste when it comes to perfume so they were always high quality and so I thought myself extremely lucky to be rocking out the scents of Gucci, Kenzo and Prada at such a young age. Wearing the perfumes used to remind me of dad while he was away and this is still something I love so much about perfume! It’s so cool that one whiff of something can trigger so many memories, emotions and feelings!

Nowadays, I travel overseas a lot myself, so I like to try ($$$ permitting of course) and buy myself a new perfume either on my way to a destination or on the way home (TREAT YO’SELF right!!?). Buying duty-free knocks the price down so much and I love the whole experience of wandering around sniffing out all the options (literally), smelling some coffee beans and the continuing to sniff some more! I have, in my time had a few perfumes I have regretted buying but I also have found some absolute treasures that have become repeat buys. So I thought I’d share some of those good ones with you!

Day-time: (this is listed as affordable to more pricey by the way 🙂 just for your viewing pleasure!)

BRITNEY SPEARS – FANTASY:

fantasy

I have to admit I do cringe every time I have to say the name of this perfume out loud. Which surprisingly is more than you probably imagine! I have worn this perfume on and off for the past 10 years and it always receives compliments… compliments followed by the question of what is it? Followed by my cringe. But sometimes you just gotta say hey, this perfume is $20, made by Britney Spears for young teeny-boppers but daaaamn it smells good! It’s super sweet and caramel-ly so for those of you gals out there that love sweet, vanilla, lolly type scents, this one’s for you! It has notes of kiwi, chocolate, musk and cupcakes (wtf, I know!) and really is a sweet summery smell. Another thing that I can’t get over about this perfume is its longevity on the skin. Most cheaper, celebrity perfumes you spray on and can’t even smell them 10 minutes later but this bad boy stays on for hours, years even! I can spray it on in the morning, have a shower that night and still smell it the next day! Cheap and long-lasting.. #DOUBLEBANGER!

CHLOE EU DE PARFUM:

chloeThis is a pretty iconic perfume in its own right and I’m pretty sure it’s because of its floral-y amazingness. Totally sure. It epitomizes the smell of roses so perfectly and for me that’s why it’s one of my faves. It’s feminine and fresh and doesn’t smell like a Nanna like some floral perfumes do (I’m looking at you Red Door by Elizabeth Arden!!) I like to wear this during the day but there’s absolutely no reason why it couldn’t be a night-time scent as well; it’s elegant but edgy y’see? Along with the significant rose smell it also contains hints of freesia, peony, lily of the valley and amber so for you floral lovers out there.. GO GET IT!

GUERLAIN – INSOLENCE:

insolence

Insolence hands down wins the title of my favourite ever perfume up to and including the year of 2016. I call it my powder puff perfume and I’ve been wearing it for about 5 years now. I remember the first time I smelt it.. I was in the U.K getting changed after a dance lesson and a girl in the change room sprayed some and I swear I almost died. It was love at first whiff. I had to ask her what the name of it was and I quickly bought it duty-free on that very flight home! It’s had my heart (and nostrils) ever since! I’ve also tried Guerlain’s other version of it called ‘My Insolence’ which comes in a pink bottle and it’s just as gorgeous just a little more sweet. The smell of Insolence is powdery and soft with floral and sweet notes. It contains violet, raspberry, red berries, musk and sandalwood just to name a few but for me the scent really can’t be summed up in words. Some one needs to create an app where our devices can pump out the smell of something at the tap of a finger. How good would that be right now!! Also for some of those cooking tutorials where you just know the smell of those baking cookies would be off the chain! Anyway, I digress.. go find this perfume, smell it and get back to me. I know the minute my mum smelt it on me she went out the next day and bought a bottle for herself she loved it so much 🙂

I only have a couple of night-time scents but I feel that it makes it a bit more special and maybe gives you more of a personal stamp that people can remember you by. I tend to leave this two to night-time or special occasions as they were both rather pricey and I don’t just want to go through them willy-nilly you know?! But that’s not to say they cant be worn through the day as well 🙂

Night-time:

TOM FORD – VELVET ORCHID:

black orchid

This one is a bit of a newbie to my perfume corner but it’s one I loved immediately. I wanted to buy another special night-time fragrance to give my other much-loved, yet to be mentioned favourite a break sometimes. So of course I headed to the Tom Ford counter. Tom Ford knows how to rock + roll. I smelt a lot of their fragrances as most of them are neither masculine or feminine and can be worn by whoever (very cool) but this one really stuck with me. It’s a bloody treat. It’s my typical kind of scent; floral, sweet and powdery but with a hint of balsamic which gives it its edge. Kind of like Strawberries and balsamic ice-cream.. sounds wrong but it’s so right!! (For all you vegan folk out there, I tried that ice-cream before I was vegan 😉 it was yummy but the big bloated tummy I got afterwards wasn’t worth it) Velvet Orchid reminds me of dessert and liqueur and has a very luxurious feel about it, perfect for the night! Some notes are myrrh, rum (yes please!), honey, orchid, rose oil, vanilla and lime which all add up to create a very special, dark fragrance.

CHANEL No5 EU DE PARFUM:

no5

Well I don’t think much needs to be said about this one. She is famous enough already and there really isn’t much I could say to add to that! This is the only woody perfume I’ve ever bought as I’m not much into the smell of the woods but I’ve loved no5 for roughly 6 years now. It’s always been my go-to special fragrance and I absolutely always wear it on my birthday (it makes me feel special, ok! he he). It’s one I always try to have a bottle of and that actually comes pretty easy, not because I buy, buy, buy but because it’s so darn strong! You really don’t need that much of it and if you do go too hard it can quickly become overkill, sending anyone in your 10 meter radius to start gasping for air. The longevity of it is awesome, both in the bottle and also on the skin. It lasts so long it’s another one I can smell the next day! Whilst it is woody, there still if a powdery, floral tinge to it and it’s another one of those ones I can’t put my finger on exactly what it smells like. It smells like Chanel no5! Hence why there are so many soap bars and candles and what not out there that are now branded as smelling like “Chanel no5”. The key notes however are ylang-ylang, sandalwood, jasmine, vanilla, rose, patchouli, bergamot and vetiver. Marilyn Monroe loved it for a reason guys!

What are some of your favourite fragrances? Are there any out there you think I might enjoy judging from this list? Please feel free to share in the comments below 🙂

FAQ’s:

  1. Where are you originally from? I was raised in Mandurah, a small-ish town near Perth in Western Australia and moved to Sydney 8 years ago
  2. How old were you when you started dancing? I started Ballet lessons at the age of 3, then moved on to some Jazz around 4/5 then tried Ballroom at the age of 6. I’ve been dancing ever since!
  3. How did you meet Steve? Steve is also from Mandurah and we grew up in the same dance school and lived only 5 minutes down the road from one another! We started dancing together in 2003 and by 2005 had realised there was more to us than just good friends 🙂
  4. What is your favourite part about Ballroom Dancing? The make-up and the dresses of course! ha ha I kid.. bit of a personal joke that one. I love how I get to push myself to new unexplored boundaries everyday and use it as a way of expressing my feelings and emotions. Also, whilst I hate flying I feel so lucky to be able to travel to different countries and take in new cultures at the same time as learning off the world’s best ballroom teachers.
  5. Do you ever feel unmotivated/uninspired? If so, what do you do to pull yourself together and get to dance practice? This one made me laugh, ALL THE TIME! I dance basically everyday, whether its teaching or my own practice it still takes its toll on the body and can become super draining. I’m no dance junkie, I’m more of an emotional dancer.. when I feel like dancing I will dance! Some days it is harder than others but the thing with Ballroom is that there is another person involved and we are a team so I have to take that persons wants into account as well as my own. Sometimes Steve and I both don’t feel like dancing but we put on the old dance shoes and hit the d-floor anyway, but if it really isn’t working after 5 minutes we call it and leave. At times its better to go outside and have a coffee and refresh the brain rather than slogging away at something that you will eventually start to resent. It’s no good being a burnt-out resentful dancer!! This is why we try to take every Sunday off, no teaching, no dancing! For those times when I know I should be dancing but am struggling with motivation I try to look toward the next major competition or floor show and think of how I want my performance to be.. that usually kicks my butt into gear 🙂
  6. Who is your biggest inspiration? This may sound super corny but I have to say Steve. He is the backbone of our dance partnership and pushes and motivates me everyday. He has so much belief in not only me but our partnership that its contagious! Without him there would have been so many times where I might have walked away from the dance scene but he has helped me realise why I chose this life and why, through all the hard times, I need to keep going!
  7. What would be your dream job? I have to say I am pretty lucky to be able to do what I love and not be tied down to a 9-5 job but if I was involved in a totally different career I would love to work for some sort of Women’s magazine
  8. What’s your dream holiday? Hmm my dream holiday would involve travelling to any place where its hot and I don’t have 20 suitcases filled with competition stuff. Somewhere I’ve always wanted to go is the Bora Bora. Those villas + beautiful blue water + sunshine = dream come true. Of all the places and times I’ve travelled can you believe I haven’t been somewhere warm for a relaxing vacation! Craziness I know.
  9. What are 3 key beauty products in your handbag? Lipstick (a lot of them), L’occitane hand moisturiser, Vaseline (for when my lips are dry!)
  10. What are some of your favourite blogs? Oooh, I love Cupcakes and Cashmere and have been following that blog for many years now, more recently I’ve been loving Pink Peonies, and an all time favourite would have to be Zotheysay by Zoe Foster Blake (Funny comedian man Hamish Blake’s wife for those of you playing out there)

So I hope this answered a few lurking questions you may have had! But if you have moooore questions, then feel free to pop them into the comments below 🙂

Every gal loves trying new products, right? Whether it’s something that has been recommended to them, something they’ve seen advertised (guilty) or just something they have happily stumbled upon, finding a holy grail product is like finding hidden treasure! I’ve had many-a experience with different products, as I’m sure we all have, but today I wanted to focus on a few that have been tickling my fancy the past couple of months. Some are old favourites that I’ve revisited and thought “where have you beeeeen?” and others are new to the block but have still left me thinking the same thing!!

DR HAUSCHKA ROSE DAY CREAM:

This little baby has been in my life a few times before. A few of you may remember in my last skincare post here that I mentioned I have a slight penchant for chopping and changing when it comes to skincare. One brand I know that I can rely on though is Dr Hauschka. I first tried their products back in 2014 and it was definitely love at first application. I bought the little face kit which

rose-day-cream
Rose Day Cream

contains all their cult products in miniature form so that you can test each cream and see which your skin prefers. The brand is all natural and organic and my skin absolutely loves the stuff. I’m only mentioning one of their products today but that’s only because I feel this day cream is worth a special mention.

The Rose Day Cream is one of my all time faves. The smell, the texture, but mostly the amazing effect it instantly has on my face! Recommended for normal, dry and sensitive skin the texture is rich and luxurious and calms down any unwanted redness. This stuff is so great for me as I am normal/dry but I suggest if you are prone to oilyness this guy might just ramp that up for you so maybe try the tester size first just to be sure. Each tube contains 30 organic roses, vitamin C, wild rose hip, shea butter, avocado oil, extracts of marshmellow plus many more amazing all natural ingredients. You only need a small amount, warm it up between your hands and then press lightly onto the skin. It leaves me glowy and moisturised, calms down some of my unwanted redness (thanks pale skin!) and as an added bonus, my face smells like a field of roses! Definitely worth a try 🙂 You can buy Dr. Hauschka at all Myer stores or if you live in Sydney I buy mine from Dr. Earth located in Newtown.

ESTEE LAUDER ADVANCED NIGHT REPAIR:

advanced-night-repair
Advanced Night Repair

This next product had been something I had been wanting for a while and I guess you could say is a bit of a cult product. It is advertised eeeeeverywhere, so naturally I had high expectations. Luckily enough I was not disappointed 🙂 Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair is like liquid-y gold for the face and I’ve become a little obsessed by it. I’ve never used much in the way of night skin care before but something of late has made me realise I’m not getting any younger and I need to preserve the skin I have! Those 9 hours mustn’t go to waste! So I bought this Duty Free on my way to Hong Kong. Its promoted to reduce the look of all key signs of ageing and what I’ve already noticed (after about 4 weeks) is that my skin feels more hydrated, brighter and smoother #yeahbaby! I know it’s slightly dear but you will only need to use 2-3 drops every night so the longevity is great and plus you will wake up with the skin of a baby’s bum! On your face! That sounded better in my head…

BECCA UNDER EYE BRIGHTENING CORRECTOR:

under-eye-corrector
Under Eye Corrector

Lastly, is a makeup product I have been using EVERY DAMN DAY since purchasing it. I’ve even used it with my competition makeup it’s that dang good. The Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector. As you have probably noticed I have quite pale skin, couple this with working late hours at the dance studio and you have yourself some pretty attractive under eye circles. I’ve tried all sorts of concealers and what not to try to cover those dark circles but I just find that because the under eye area is so delicate, thick products tend to get too cakey and flakey #poet. So, I was a bit too excited to try this product after I spotted it at Sephora about a month or so ago. It’s pale pink in colour and extremely rich and creamy so you don’t need to use a lot. I pop it on with a brush in a small triangle under my eye and then tap it in with my ring finger to make sure its nice and blended. There you can either leave as is, but I like to then place a small amount of concealer on top to set it and tone down some of the pinky-ness (not too much though!) Becca is a popular Australian brand with some beautiful products which you can either shop online or in Sephora.

So if I have managed to tempt you with the idea of some of these products, please let me know! What are some of your all time favourites?

Love, Rachelle xx
